FAQ
What is Ordinals Name Link?
Ordinals Name Link is a gateway service that lets you access Bitcoin-native domains and the Ordinals inscriptions they point to through standard web browsers.
How does it work?
When you append .onl to a Bitcoin-native domain (e.g., yourname.btc.onl), our service redirects you to the Ordinals inscription that the domain points to.
How do I set up a domain pointer for .btc?
Inscribe a .btc routing inscription like this:
{
"p":"btcname",
"op":"routing",
"name":"xxx.btc",
"ord_handle":"www",
"ord_index":"xxxi0"
}
Note: The ord_index field is your target inscription ID (ending with i*). Check out the
btcname docs for more details.
Where can I find the target inscription ID?
Can I update my domain pointer?
- For .btc: Yes, just inscribe a new routing inscription.
- For .sats: Not currently. You can only set the relay info during registration. To enable updates, a proposal to the SatsNames community is needed.
Do I need special software?
Nope! btc.onl works with any standard web browser. No special software or browser extensions required.
What types of content can I access?
Any content that can be inscribed as an Ordinal on the Bitcoin blockchain - websites, images, text, NFTs, you name it!
Is my content truly decentralized?
Absolutely. All content is stored directly on the Bitcoin blockchain as Ordinals inscriptions, ensuring true decentralization and permanence.
Can I deploy my own website and point my domain to it?
You bet! If you've got some coding chops, you can inscribe your own website.
Are .sats or other namespaces supported?
We currently support .btc and .sats, with .bitmap coming soon!
How do I set up a domain pointer for .sats?
Inscribe a .sats delay inscription like this:
{
"p": "sns",
"op": "reg",
"name": "xxx.sats",
"relay": "xxxi0",
}
Note: The relay field is your target inscription ID (ending with i*). For more info, see the
Sats Names docs.
Who's behind btc.onl?
This is a community-driven service, currently maintained by a silly dev called
hold.btc.
Is your service free?
Yes.
Do you have any token plans?
Absolutely not. We have zero plans for token issuance. Any claims of token offerings related to this service are fraudulent.
What are Ordinals domains?
Ordinals domains are text-based domains inscribed on the Bitcoin mainnet using the Ordinals protocol. They're truly decentralized, requiring only miner fees to inscribe, with no renewal fees, no annual fees, and no expiration. They're permanently yours to control. There are no reservations, no owning company, and no foundation. Ordinals domains come in various flavors: .btc, .sats, .bitmap, .unisat, .ord, and more - take your pick!
Are you affiliated with .onl?
.onl is a top-level domain. We have no affiliation with the .onl registry. We're simply the proud owners of the btc.onl/sats.onl domains.
Any risk disclaimers?
We're currently in public beta. The service may be discontinued if it doesn't meet expected outcomes. Also, since the service is free, it might shut down if the dev runs out of funds.
